Readme Notes for LanSafe III / FailSafe III 4.0

This document contains up-to-date information for LanSafe III/
FailSafe III Release 4.0 upgrade files.

How to View This Document
-------------------------

This document was formatted to be read in Windows Notepad, MS-DOS 
Editor, or any plain text editor.  To print the document, choose
Print from the File menu.

Instructions for Windows 95/NT:

1. Quit all running LanSafe III/FailSafe III programs and/or
services. If you are using Windows 95 with SNMP support, then run
'snmp -close' at the command prompt.

2. Delete the LanSafe III/FailSafe III folder (directory).

3. After downloading to any temporary directory, run the 
self-extracting .EXE.

4. CD (Change directory) to where the extracted files are located
and run SETUP.EXE. You must first select 'Uninstall' from
the Setup dialog. After the uninstallation has completed, re-run
SETUP.EXE and continue normally with the installation.

Instructions for UNIX environments:

1. Login as root. Quit all running LanSafe III programs/daemons.
Recursively remove the /usr/ls3 (default installation) directory.

2. Change directory to /tmp and extract install.sh. 

NOTE that some of the tar files have extension .tar.Z.
You need to first uncompress the files with uncompress prior to
untarring install.sh.

    # cd /tmp
    # tar -xvf <ls3filename.tar> install.sh

3. Run install.sh

    # ./install.sh

and enter tar file name <ls3filename.tar> when install.sh prompts
you to enter device name to install from. NOTE that LansSafe III
for Interactive Unix is at v3.72.

Instructions for OS/2:

1. Quit all running LanSafe III/FailSafe III programs. Delete the
LanSafe III/FailSafe III folder. If you receive an error message
stating that not all the files can be removed, you will need to
stop the SNMP services.

2. Delete the LanSafe III/FailSafe III folder (directory).

3. After downloading to any temporary directory, run the 
self-extracting .EXE.

4. CD (Change directory) to where the extracted files are located
and run INSTALL.EXE.

Instructions for Netware:

1. From the system console, stop LanSafe III
(unload module). From a workstation, delete the following files
from the Netware 'System' directory:
   Ls3*.*
   Upsbase.nlm

2. From a workstation, CD (Change directory) to where the 
extracted files are located and then copy them to a Netware
accessible volume.

3. From the server (system console prompt) run
'load x:\ls3setup.nlm'.
